Thank you for applying for the 2019 18 Inch Journey Phase One! We are so glad to hear from you!
In Phase One, our vision is to empower students with tools for cultivating a lifestyle of sustainability and daily transformation through the help of the Holy Spirit. We are looking for students who know their need for the Father, and who are willing to do the work it takes to grow in wholeness; body, soul and spirit. We are not looking for perfect students, or perfect answers. Our desire is to hear honesty and vulnerability from you, and to get to know you through your application.
This year, we are considering up to 160 Female Applicants for 22 available spaces, plus a short waiting list. We encourage you to give your whole heart to this application process!
Your application requires two references in order to be complete and ready for processing. Please choose one reference from each of these categories:
1) A spiritual leader, or pastor involved in your life
2) A close friend who has known you for at least 6 months
Parents, siblings, and significant others will not be accepted as references.
The link to the reference form is located here. You are responsible for giving your references access to this form by sending them this link. Your application will NOT be processed until we receive both reference forms. This link can also be located on the 18 Inch Journey Phase One application page.
We have the delight of hearing the hearts and stories of young men and women from all over the world, and we are honored to hear yours.
—18 Inch Journey Staff
We’d love to get to know you in a 2 to 3 minute video! You can record this on your phone or computer and upload it as an “unlisted” video to YouTube. Submit the link to your video below. Only those with the link will be able to view your video. Videos longer than 3 minutes will not be reviewed.
Please answer the following in your video:
1. Tell us your name and where you are from.
2. Share an interesting fact that we wouldn’t know about you from your application!
3. How did you hear about the 18 Inch Journey?
4. Why you are applying for a heart school this year?
We believe that creativity is an essential pillar of wholehearted living. We are looking for students with a willingness to take creative risks and be stretched.
Phase One is rooted in the reality of the Gospel. The life, death, and resurrection of Jesus are the foundation of this school. We are looking for young men and women who love and are submitted to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
We believe that salvation is worked out best in the context of community and family. We’d like to hear about the relationships in your life.
We are all growing; succeeding in some areas of life and failing in others. We all have blind spots, and can gain awareness through humility and patient practice. We’d like to hear about your awareness of your strengths and weaknesses.
We are a small, specialized school of the heart, with a desire to hit the ground running from day one. Our primary criteria is that any student would come with a readiness and desire to receive feedback and submit to our leadership.
The following questions are very personal and transparent. We want to be very clear about our expectation and standards for the culture that exists in the 18 Inch Journey. First and foremost, we believe “there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 8:1) We believe in the full power and redemption of the blood of Jesus for the forgiveness of sins.
We are all in various states of freedom. As a discipleship school, it is important for us to understand where you are in your journey with wholeness, so that we can best care for and lead you in the season ahead. It’s crucial that you desire your own wholeness more than we want it! Therefore, it is essential that students of the 18 Inch Journey are walking in a growing level of freedom, vulnerability and self-control before attending our schools.
We do not allow smoking or drinking alcohol during the 18 Inch Journey in order to create a safe atmosphere for the heart process. The legal age for drinking in the state of North Carolina is 21. Since we accept students below this age, we want to create an uncompromising culture for all students. Also, we want to minimize any space for distraction for students while taking the heart journey.
Please answer the following questions as honestly as possible. Answering "yes" to any of the following questions will NOT automatically exclude you from acceptance to Phase One. We thank you for your trust and vulnerability.
